Playoff Schedule & Knockout Phase Results

March 18, 2008

Firstly, the JCC will be closed March 24th, April 21st, April 28th, May 19th and June 9th. Which allows us to play the semi-final games on March 31st, April 7th and April 14th. I suggest, that in the event of both series' being sweeps, that we play the finals on the following dates: April 14th, May 5th and May 12th.

On the other hand, if one or both of the semi-final rounds go to three games, then the finals will be played on May 5th, May 12th, and May 26th.

I hope all of this makes sense and that everyone follows. If you have any Q's email me.

Time to switch gears, onto the one-game eliminations last night. If the first game lacked excitement, mainly due to the fact that both teams were missing their top two offensive marksmen. Blue was minus, Aron and Sander and, Grey, the most balanced team in the league "on-paper" was missing Joel and Jordan, and without their double J combo, they were pretty hard pressed for some offensive punch. Curley took a knock to the head, and once he was out of the game, it was lights out Grey.

Whatever the first game lacked, the second game brought. Although game two started out very similar to game one, as team white jumped out to a 4-1 lead. By the way, during the first half, Dan made the save of the season, Manny on a breakaway, faked to his backhand, Dan took the bait, Manny to his forehand, and from an impossible position Dan robbed him with the glove, you had to see it to believe it, really crazy!!

White started out the second half the same as they did the first, Dave, controlling the game from the point, and quarterbacking set plays to MT and Lorne. With about fifteen minutes to go, Red decided it was time to put out the big guns. Manny, Evan, and Jeff, all with a scary look in their eyes took to the floor, and one shift later, the game was all tied at five. It was an insane atmosphere, Gabe was playing awesome defense all night, Louis and Telpner got into a scuffle, and Louise got his third minor of the game, and for the second time in month got tossed from the game, St.Onge was supporting from the bench, it was electric. Packer, Sarner, Carter, and myself were up on the track.

OK, back to the game, regulation ended in a tie. Early into the first half of the over time, Dave Lantz took a minor for pushing, Red had about a minute on the power play, before Jeff took a minor for roughing. It was Whites turn on the PP, and they couldn’t win it. Off to a shootout we went. Dan faced the first set of shooters, stopping 4 of 5 from each team; it was Kevin’s turn play goalie. White fell behind 2 to 1 and early, and Manny finished it off giving Red the victory. Congrats to both teams for the most exciting game I have ever watched at the JCC.

For those who were eliminated last night please try to come out and watch some games. The spectators bring energy, and the players feed off that, making for better hockey. See you all at the Gym.
